ELON, N.C. – Elon University coach Paul Hamilton announced the addition of sophomore running back John Taylor (Richmond, Va./Lloyd C. Bird H.S.) to his 2004 football roster Friday. A transfer from Ohio University, the 6-2, 215-pound Taylor signed an athletic scholarship with the Phoenix.

Taylor appeared in 11 contests for the Bobcats as a freshman last season, collecting 213 net rushing yards and a touchdown on 48 carries for an average of 4.4 yards per carry. An all-district, all-region and all-state selection for Lloyd C. Bird, he rushed for 1,898 yards and 18 touchdowns on 224 carries as a senior for 8.5 yards per attempt.

Taylor’s other prep honors include District Player of the Year, Virginia High School Coaches Association Co-offensive Player of the Year and Richmond Times-Dispatch Richmond Metro Player of the Year accolades. He is the son of Clarence Brown and Patricia Taylor.
