ELON, N.C. -- Elon University Athletics and Verizon Wireless have teamed up to name a Verizon Wireless "Performer of the Month" on the final Wednesday of each month. The recipient of this award for January is sophomore women’s basketball player Kitara McMoore (Virginia Beach, Va.).

McMoore, a forward, averaged 16.6 points and 11.0 rebounds over eight games. During that span, McMoore recorded six consecutive double-doubles. The first two-time recipient of this award, McMoore shot 54.0 percent from the floor and 68.8 percent from the line while also passing for 14 assists, swiping nine steals and blocking four shots. In Elon’s win over Western Carolina, she netted a career-high 31 points and grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds while hitting 12-of-18 shots from the floor. Twice in January she was named Southern Conference Player of the Week.

McMoore currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (56.5%). She also ranks among the SoCon leaders in blocks (8th - 0.82 bpg), offensive rebounds (3rd - 3.29 rpg) and defensive rebounds (2nd - 6.18 rpg). In the most recent NCAA statistical rankings, McMoore’s field goal percentage rated as the 25th-best in all of NCAA Division I play.

On behalf of Kitara McMoore, Verizon Wireless will donate $250 to the Elon Athletics Foundation general scholarship fund.
