Lembo Pleased With Second Spring Session

ELON, N.C. – Elon conducted its second session of its spring football practice schedule at the Hunt Field and Tucker Field practice facility Wednesday afternoon much to the liking of head coach Pete Lembo.

"The tempo was excellent," said Lembo. "It was a crisp practice. The players were hustling from period to period, anticipating what we wanted from them. The enthusiasm of day one definitely carried over to day two."

Defensively, All-American Chad Nkang, Danny Boback and Corey Weaver have been taking repetitions as linebackers on the first unit and have impressed Lembo with their speed.

"We had a very solid day defensively," said Lembo. "I like the way that the defense is flying around and I'm very pleased with our speed at the linebacker position. We took another step forward on the defensive side of the ball Wednesday."

Quarterbacks Shayne Milligan and Wes Pope (pictured left) presented the Phoenix with offensive highlights. Milligan turned in a solid practice at signal caller while Pope connected on a deep ball to wide receiver Michael Mayers. Up front, offensive lineman Michael Moody posted a noteworthy performance.

"We had some big plays, but we weren't consistent offensively," said Lembo. "We had too many dropped balls and too many penalties. We are working on correcting that immediately."

After working out in shorts and helmets the first two days, the Phoenix will hit the practice fields in upper body pads at 4:15 p.m. Friday for the third spring session. All sessions are open to the public.
