Phoenix Offense Continues to Make Strides

ELON, N.C. – The Phoenix offense continued to demonstrate progress as Elon conducted the sixth session of its 2006 spring football practice schedule Wednesday afternoon at the Hunt Field and Tucker Field practice facility.

“We executed better offensively,” said Elon coach Pete Lembo. “We had a relatively clean practice. We caught the football better. Our receivers are slowly becoming more comfortable with the system, allowing them to concentrate on the physical part of the game and play at a faster speed.”

Lembo also remarked that he was pleased with how well tailbacks Reggie Hall and T.J. Clegg are catching the football out of the backfield. The Phoenix mentor was also satisfied with the efforts and continued progress made by the defense.

“The defense really stepped up late in the practice,” said Lembo. “By the end of the session, after a sudden change (surprise shift of possession) in the red zone, the defense stopped our offense and forced a field goal attempt. Andrew Wilcox stepped up and made a pressure kick, which was good to see.”

The Phoenix will conduct this spring's seventh practice session at 4:15 p.m. Friday and the eighth session at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on the practice fields.
