The Under-19 Boys trophy, James P. McGuire Cup, is the oldest in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships. Hoisting the McGuire Cup on its 71st anniversary is Javanon SC from Kentucky. They defeated Arsenal FC from California by a 3-2 score.
Parker and his Javanon team were making their second appearance in the national tournament, but their first in the finals.
"Our team has stuck together for so many years," stated Parker who said that most of the team has played together for almost a decade. "It's like one big family. We worked hard to refine our skills and I don't think we could have played any better."
To reach the title game, Javanon played three pool games, going 2-1-0. They first defeated FC Delco Black IV of Pennsylvania 1-0 before falling to Arsenal FC 3-2. In its final pool game, Javanon knocked off Weston FC of Florida 3-2.
