BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Eleven student-athletes from five universities – including two from Southern Conference regular season champion Elon – have been named to the 2008 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men's Soccer Team. The Phoenix was represented by junior foward
Justin Wyatt (Raleigh, N.C) and junior defender
Steven Kinney (Norcross, Ga.). It was the second selection for both players.
Wyatt also picked up the NSCAA honor for the second time after a tremendous junior season. Wyatt finished the season with 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points. The 13 goals are tied for the most in a single season in program history while his 33 points also tie for the most in a year in program history. For his efforts, Wyatt was named the 2008 Southern Conference Player of the Year, was a First Team All-SoCon pick and collected Second Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region.
Kinney claimed his second honor following a junior campaign in which he was named First Team All-SoCon and also earned a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament squad. He helped to anchor an Elon defense which recorded seven shutouts. Kinney finished the season with one goal and four assists. He was also a Second Team NSCAA All-South Region selection.
Ten of the 11 players on the all-state squad also earned All-Region honors from the NSCAA.
