KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Three Elon men's soccer players were selected as Scholar All-South Region honoress by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as announced on Monday. Elon's
Steven Kinney (Norcross, Ga.) was a First Team honoree while
Will Mason (Russell, Ohio) earned a spot on the Second Team.
Kyle Boerner (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) was an Honorable Mention recipient. They represented three of the nine SoCon players named to the teams.
Kinney, a junior defender who carries a 3.69 GPA as an accounting major, was a First Team All-SoCon pick and also earned a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament squad. An All-State selection, he helped to anchor an Elon defense which recorded seven shutouts. Kinney finished the season with one goal and four assists. He was also a Second Team NSCAA All-South Region selection.
Mason, a senior defender who boasts a 3.47 GPA as an international studies major, was a Second Team All-Southern Conference performer this season. He finished the season with one assist. Mason was a solid contributor to Elon's defensive unit which recorded seven shutouts.
Boerner, a senior goalie who owns a 3.47 GPA as a business administration major, was a First Team All-SoCon honoree. In his senior campaign, Boerner posted a 1.59 GAA, made 47 saves and notched two shutouts. He also assisted on one Phoenix goal during the year.
