KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Elon University junior defender
Steven Kinney (Norcross, Ga.) was one of two Southern Conference men's soccer players honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for his outstanding academic record. Kinney was selected as a University Division Second Team NSCAA/adidas Men's College Scholar All-America recipient. It is the first selection to this team for Kinney or any Elon player.
Kinney, who carries a 3.69 GPA as an accounting major, was a First Team All-SoCon pick and also earned a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament squad. An All-State selection, he helped to anchor an Elon defense which recorded seven shutouts to lead the Phoenix to its first-ever NCAA Division I league title. Kinney finished the season with one goal and four assists. He was also a Second Team NSCAA All-South Region selection and a First Team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honoree.
Furman's Patrick Murray, also a Second Team pick, was the other SoCon representative on the squad.
