ELON, N.C. -- Tickets for the men's soccer showdown between the Elon Phoenix and the top-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons are available for $6. Fans can purchase tickets on-line or by calling the ticket office at 336-278-6750. Children 12 and under will be admitted free as will anyone possessing a valid Phoenix Card. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night and the Rhodes Stadium gates will open at 6 p.m.
Elon enters the match at 2-6-1 and has dropped three consecutive 2-1 decisions, the last two to #15 North Carolina and #27 Charlotte. The Phoenix has been outscored by just three goals all season long.
Justin Wyatt's four goals and nine points lead the Phoenix. Wyatt has netted markers in back-to-back outings.
Erfan Imeni is second on the squad with two goals and five points.
In goal,
Kyle Boerner has a 1.68 GAA and has made 24 saves in eight games for Elon.
Wake Forest enters at 8-0-0 and ranked number one in the nation. The Demon Deacons have outscored opponents 25-5 on the year. In their last outing, Wake Forest defeated second-ranked Maryland 4-2.
Marcus Tracy's seven goals and 18 points lead the team while seven other players have all netted two scores. Jamie Franks, brother of Elon's
Brad Franks, has a team-high six assists.
Akira Fitzgerald has allowed just five goals while making 22 saves and posting a 0.62 GAA in eight matches in goal.
Last season, Elon earned a 1-1 tie with Wake Forest while the team was ranked number one in the country. It was the first blemish on the Demon Deacon schedule that season.
