ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team continues its conference schedule as it travels to Statesboro, Ga., to take on Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Elon enters the contest with a 2-3 record, while the Lady Eagles are 2-4 on the season. The Phoenix defeated Georgia Southern in the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference tournament by a score of 57-54.

- The Phoenix opens Southern Conference play with Georgia Southern for the first time in program history. The Eagles led the series 5-8.
- Elon became the first 11-seed to win a tournament game opener when it handed GSU a 57-54 loss in last year’s SoCon tournament.
- If the Phoenix wins today’s contest, it will improve to 2-3 all-time in SoCon openers. Elon won its only SoCon opener in 2007 when it defeated Wofford 66-57.
- Elon has only defeated Georgia Southern one time in Statesboro, Ga. The 69-58 win came in the first game that the teams ever played on Jan. 12, 2004.
- Ali Ford continues to shine for the Phoenix. The freshman is near the top of the SoCon charts in scoring, assists, steals, three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goals made and assist/turnover ratio.
