This Week in Elon Athletics

ELON, N.C. – The 2009-10 Elon Phoenix athletic season continues this week as the men’s and women’s basketball teams continue play. The Phoenix women’s basketball squad is looking for its first win in Charleston, S.C., since 2007 on Monday before breaking for exams. Both teams return to the court on December 13 when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. The men’s team will play Wake Forest, while the women will take on Winston-Salem State. Every Monday, Phoenix fans can get a look at the week ahead with our “This Week in Elon Athletics” feature when we will preview all of the week’s upcoming events for our fall sports teams.
 
Men’s Basketball (3-6, 1-1)
Elon at Wake Forest; Sunday, December 13; 2 p.m.; Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
• After extensive travel to open the season, the Phoenix will take a break this week as final exams get underway.
• Elon is coming off a big Southern Conference road victory at Chattanooga on Saturday night. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures in the contest.
• Junior guard Chris Long has consistently played well against Chattanooga. On Saturday, he netted a career-high 20 points, hitting 5-of-10 from downtown. Long also dished out nine assists and added five steals.
 
Women’s Basketball (2-4, 0-1)
Elon at College of Charleston; Monday, December 7 at 7 p.m.; Charleston, S.C. Elon at Winston-Salem State; Sunday, December 13 at 2 p.m.; Winston-Salem, N .C.
 
• Elon is looking for its first Southern Conference win and its first road win when it takes on the College of Charleston at 7 p.m., on Monday evening. Elon dropped a 70-58 decision to Georgia Southern in its first conference game of the season.
• Freshman Ali Ford continues to lead the Phoenix in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game. The newcomer has led Elon in points in five of its six games this season.
• The Phoenix wraps up its five-game road trip on Sunday when it travels to Winston-Salem State. Elon will return to Alumni Gym on December 17 when it welcomes Chattanooga at 7 p.m.
