Football Names 2009 Team Captains

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University football coach Pete Lembo announced today that his squad has voted offensive lineman David Harrison (Charlotte, N.C.), defensive back Nolan Ward (Brandon, Fla.) and defensive back Walker White (Charlotte, N.C.) as captains for the 2009 fall campaign, the 87th season of Elon football.  All three players will be seniors this fall.

Harrison is a two-year captain who earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors from the league's coaches last year.  Harrison played in all 12 Phoenix contests during his junior campaign.  Harrison has started 33 games at offensive guard since joining the Phoenix program and was awarded the team's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman honor this year.

Ward finished second on the squad with 70 total tackles a year ago.  He posted three and a half tackles for a loss and intercepted two passes.  Ward also forced one fumble.  He has been a three-year starter, appearing in 32 total games in three seasons.  Ward has amassed 157 total tackles, including eight tackles for a loss and a sack.  He has registered seven interceptions which rate in a tie for the third-most for an Elon player since the move to FCS play.

White was a Second Team All-SoCon pick a year ago by both the league's coaches and the media.  In nine games last year, White recorded 47 tackles and broke up four passes.  Of the 47 tackles, 29 were solo stops and he also had posted a half-tackle for a loss.  In his 29 career games at Elon, White, a two-year starter, has tallied 132 total tackles, including three and a half tackles for a loss and a sack.  He also has one interception.  White was awarded the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Back honor this year.
