ELON, N.C. -- Elon junior running back #A.J. Harris# was selected as a member of the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District 3 First Team on Thursday. It marks the second consecutive season that Harris has been a first-team choice. He is now eligible for Academic All-America accolades.
Harris, who was recently named both the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week as well as the league's student-athlete of the week, currently sports a 3.41 GPA in media arts and entertainment.
Through eight games, the Ocean View, N.J. native leads Elon with 416 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. He ranks 10th in the Southern Conference in rushing. Harris has also hauled in 29 passes for 232 yards and two scores.
Earlier this week Harris rushed for a career-best 163 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries in the Phoenix's 49-35 victory over 20th-ranked Chattanooga.
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests, be at least a sophomore athletically and carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3.
