Women's Basketball Announces 2010-11 Schedule

Complete Schedule

ELON, N.C. –
Elon University head women’s basketball coach Karen Barefoot announced her team’s schedule for the 2010-11 season on Wednesday, which features 15 home games in the recently renovated Alumni Gym, as well as 14 games on the road versus several top Southern Conference and non-conference opponents.

“We have a very competitive non-conference schedule that will prepare us for some high-level play in the Southern Conference this upcoming season,” Barefoot said. “I am very excited to play against a nationally ranked top-10 team in West Virginia and we have the opportunity to play against an ACC team in Virginia Tech. There is a lot of variety in the schedule and I believe our players are up to the challenge and will enjoy it.”

Games against the Virginia Tech Hokies (Nov. 18), West Virginia Mountaineers (Dec. 2), Morgan State Bears (Dec. 5) and the Marshall Thundering Herd (Dec. 30) highlight Elon’s non-conference road schedule this season. The Phoenix will host non-conference foes Coastal Carolina (Nov. 21), Virginia Intermont College (Nov. 23) and Southern Virginia (Jan. 27) at Alumni Gym this upcoming season. Elon’s match-up on Thursday, Jan. 27, with SVU will be Education Day at Alumni Gym, which is schedule for an 11 a.m. tip. Last season, over 700 students from local elementary schools attended Education Day, as Elon improved to 4-2 all-time in Education Day contests with the win.

The Phoenix opens the SoCon portion of its schedule on Monday, Nov. 29, with a trip to Boone to take on Appalachian State at 7 p.m.  Elon will host its first SoCon home game on Saturday, Dec. 18, when Western Carolina comes to Alumni Gym. Elon plays its final home game on Monday, Feb. 21, when the Phoenix plays perennial SoCon power Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Elon captured its first win over the Lady Mocs last season in its SoCon home opener with a 74-66 victory at Alumni Gym.

Elon begins its 2010-11 season at home with the Phoenix Classic, Nov. 12-14, at Alumni Gym when the Phoenix takes on Fordham, Nov. 12, and Troy, Nov. 14. Also competing in the Phoenix Classic are the Seawolves from Stony Brook.

The 2010-11 SoCon Tournament is scheduled for March 3-7 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
