ELON, N.C. – Currently one game back of the top spot in the Southern Conference, the Elon University women’s basketball team (15-6, 9-3) will make the short trek to Davidson on Monday night, Jan. 31, to face the Wildcats at 7 p.m. inside John M. Belk Arena. Be sure to listen to the game on WSOE 89.3 FM, with coverage beginning live at 6:45 p.m.
THE SERIES: Elon and Davidson will be meeting for the 20th time on Monday night. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 13-6, but Elon has won the last two meetings, including a 61-60 decision earlier this season inside Alumni Gym behind late game heroics from Shon Redmond. In her first career start, Redmond completed an old-fashioned three-point play with 18.3 seconds remaining to give the Phoenix a 61-60 advantage, one it would not relinquish in the final moments after Davidson’s Laura Murray missed a jumper on her team’s final possession. Elon has a 1-5 record all-time in games played at Davidson.
THE BAREFOOT FILE: Elon head coach Karen Barefoot enters Monday's game with a 204-137 career record in her 13th season as a head coach, including a 32-51 mark in her third season with the Phoenix. Barefoot captured her 200th career victory earlier this season on Jan. 16 when the Phoenix topped Wofford, 64-47, in Spartanburg, S.C. Barefoot recorded 102 victories at Apprentice School in six seasons, leading her team to the 2001 NSCAA National title and coaching a total of seven All-American players. Barefoot recorded 70 wins at Lenoir-Rhyne in four seasons, leading the Bears to their first NCAA postseason appearance and SAC title in school history, while also earning league Coach of the Year honors. In three seasons at Elon, Barefoot has amassed 32 victories.
27-POINT SALUTE: Elon’s 76-49 win over Western Carolina on Jan. 29 marked the team’s largest margin of victory over a Southern Conference opponent since joining the league in 2002-03. The last time Elon won a conference game by 27 or more points was in 2002 when the Phoenix topped UNC Asheville by 27 points as a member of the Big South.
LOOKING AHEAD: After taking on Davidson, Elon completes its three-game road swing on Feb. 7 when it heads to Statesboro, Ga. to face Georgia Southern. The Phoenix returns home on Feb. 10 when it hosts UNC Greensboro for its White Out contest inside Alumni Gym.
ON THIS DATE: Elon has a 4-2 record all-time in games played on Jan. 31. The last time the Phoenix won a game on Jan. 31 was in 2004 when it came away with an 82-67 victory at Wofford.
WINNING WAYS: Winners of nine out of its last 10 games, the Phoenix’s 15 victories this season are the most since the 2003-04 season when Elon finished the year with a 17-12 record. Elon’s nine wins thus far in Southern Conference play are the second most since the team finished with a 12-8 record in league play in 2003-04.
CAREER DAY: Kelsey Evans got into a rhythm early at Western Carolina on Jan. 29, scoring 18 first half points en route to a career-high 24 to help the Phoenix claim a 76-49 win over the Catamounts. Evans recorded 15 rebounds in the win as well, marking her seventh double-double of the season (11th career). Over the last three games, Evans is averaging 16.3 points on 53.8 percent shooting from the field to go along with 14.3 rebounds per game.
ROAD DOGS: Elon has won five out of six Southern Conference road games this season. In its five victories, Elon has a win margin of +12.8 points. Including Monday’s game against Davidson, Elon has four SoCon road games remaining.
BLOCK PARTY: Elon currently leads the Southern Conference in blocked shots with 124 (5.9 per game), good for eighth nationally.
Kelsey Evans ranks second in the league at 2.2 blocks per game, while
Lisa Archie ranks fourth at 1.9 blocks per game.
MOVING ON UP: Ali Ford scored 17 points in Elon’s win over Western Carolina on Jan. 29, putting her at 847 for her career. Ford is currently fifth in the Southern Conference in scoring at 16.6 points per game.

ELON ON THE BIG SCREEN: Elon’s Feb. 19 game at home against Samford will be televised on SportSouth. Tip-off between the Phoenix and Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m. inside Alumni Gym, with the Elon men’s game versus UNC Greensboro to follow at 8 p.m.
WHITE OUT ALUMNI GYM: The newly renovated Alumni Gym will be packed full of Phoenix fans dressed in white on Thursday, Feb. 10, as the Elon women’s basketball team aims to take down cross-town rival UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. Elon fans will receive a free T-shirt at the door.
