Elon Game Notes
ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team (13-10) will look to break a five-game losing streak as it travels to South Carolina for the third time this season for a series at Charleston Southern (11-16). The three-game set with the Bucs opens with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday, March 24, and wraps up with another 2 p.m. start on Friday, March 25.
THE SERIES: The Phoenix and the Bucs have not met since May 5, 2002, which was Elon’s last year in the Big South Conference. In the last meeting, the two schools split the doubleheader with CSU taking the first game, 6-1, and Elon winning the second, 7-2. The Phoenix holds an all-time record of 6-3 over the Bucs.
ON DECK: Elon will have the weekend off before taking on North Carolina A&T for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30. The first game with the Aggies is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at East Field.
THE RADUENZ FILE: The 2011 season marks Patti Raduenz’s 11th season as Elon’s head coach. Raduenz currently holds a 260-311-2 career record. Raduenz is 10 wins shy of passing former Elon head coach Sue Leonard for the most victories in school history.
REMARKABLE ROOKIE: Rookie Carleigh Nester has made a name for herself in her first season of play for the Phoenix. The freshman earned a team-best .429 batting average last week after going 6-for-14 at the plate hitting one double, scoring one run and recording two RBI. The N.C. native currently holds the best batting average on the team (.360), sits third in RBI with eight and has hit a league-leading seven doubles.
