CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2010-11 University Division All-State Women’s Basketball Team on Tuesday, April 5, and Elon sophomore guard
Ali Ford was named a first-team honoree. This marks the second year in a row Ford has been named to the NCCSIA all-state team.
Ford started all 33 games for Elon during the 2010-11 season and continued to etch her name in the Elon record books. The Morganton, N.C. native became only the third sophomore in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, putting herself alongside Elon Hall of Famer Venessa Corbett and women’s hoops standout Nuggie Dixon. Ford scored her 1,000th point against Furman on March 5 in the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament after netting a game-high 25 points to lead Elon to victory. She ended her second year at Elon with a total of 1,044 career points after scoring a career-high 35 against USC Upstate and 19 against UAB in the Women’s Basketball Invitational. A preseason all-league selection, Ford was named a second-team All-SoCon selection by the media and an all-conference honoree by the league’s head coaches. She was also named to the SoCon All-Tournament team for her efforts. Ford finished the year ranked second all-time in Elon history with 173 three-point field goals and second all-time with 538 three-point field goal attempts. She led Elon in scoring at 17.1 points per game (second in SoCon) and was sixth in the league in free throw percentage (81.3 percent) and ninth in steals (1.7 per game).
