Elon Game Notes

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team will conclude an eight-game home stand with a Southern Conference series against the Eagles of Georgia Southern this weekend at East Field. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9, with the first game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, then wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday, April 10.

THE SERIES: Elon and Georgia Southern have met 24 times prior to this weekend’s series, as the Eagles hold an all-time 16-8 advantage. Last year, Elon dropped all three regular season meetings to GSU before claiming a 3-2 win in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament en route to the title.

LAST TIME OUT: Two no-hitters from pitchers #Erin O’Shea and Lauren Taylor# led the Elon to a pair of wins over North Carolina Central on April 7 at East Field. Every Phoenix player that went to the plate in the two games earned a hit as Elon took an 8-0 win over the Lady Eagles in game one and a dominating 20-0 victory in game two. O’Shea and Taylor combined for 11 innings of no-hit softball in the two games while also striking out 22 NCCU batters. Emerald Graham went 4-for-6 on the day at the plate, hitting two home runs and recording six RBI.

THE RADUENZ FILE: The 2011 season marks Patti Raduenz’s 11th season as Elon’s head coach. Raduenz currently holds a 264-315-2 career record. Raduenz is six wins shy of passing former Elon head coach Sue Leonard for the most victories in school history.

ELON IN APRIL: Since 1992, Elon is 165-169-1 in the month of April. Last season, the Phoenix went 11-7 in the third month of play, while the team’s best performance came in 1997 when Elon went 13-4.

ON DECK: Following this weekend’s action, Elon plays its next six games on the road. The Phoenix faces Charlotte for two games on Wednesday, April 13, before heading to Birmingham, Ala. next weekend for a three-game set versus Samford, April 16-17.
