SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After catching 16 balls for a career-high 237 yards and one touchdown in a win over North Carolina Central, Elon junior wide receiver
Aaron Mellette was recognized as both the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards National Wide Receiver of the Week. This is the first SoCon player of the Week honor of Mellette's career, but the second time this season that he was honored with the national honor.
Mellette's 237 receiving yards were the most by an Elon receiver since the program moved to NCAA Division I play for the 1999 season. Among Mellette's 16 receptions against the N.C. Central Eagles was a 65-yard touchdown grab that gave the Phoenix a 10-3 lead.
Through three games, Mellette has caught 36 passes for 494 yards and three scores. His 12.00 receptions per game lead the nation while his 164.7 receiving yards per outing rank second nationally.
Mellette and the Phoenix will be back in action at Rhodes Stadium this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as they welcome in The Citadel Bulldogs on Family Weekend.
