SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After passing for 412 yards and a personal-best five touchdowns in a league victory over Western Carolina, Elon senior quarterback
Thomas Wilson was recognized as the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23. This is the second career SoCon Player of the Week honor for Wilson.
In the 42-31 victory over the Catamounts, Wilson completed 20 of his 28 passing attempts while posting the third 400-yard passing performance of his career and second in as many games. Wilson tossed touchdown passes of 31, 75, 48, 55 and 47 yards in the win. His 75-yard touchdown strike to tight end
Chris Harris matched the 10th-longest passing play in school history.
The Raleigh, N.C., native currently leads the SoCon and rates 10th nationally with 286.4 passing yards per game. Wilson has passed for 2,005 yards and a league-leading 18 touchdowns in seven games. He has completed 63.8 percent of his passes and sports an efficiency rating of 158.40.
Wilson's performance also earned him honorable mention Quarterback Performer of the Week distinction from College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).
CFPA also recognized senior wide receiver
Aaron Mellette with honorable mention Wide Receiver Performer of the Week accolades. Mellette caught five passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over Western Carolina.
The Phoenix will be back in action at home this weekend when the Furman Paladins visit Rhodes Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff as part of Elon's Live Pink Week.
