KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Elon men’s soccer team has been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a recipient of the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. Elon was one of 224 institutions to earn the award and just one of 153 schools to have both its men’s and women’s programs honored.
The Team Academic Award is presented to programs which boast a minimum of a team GPA of 3.0 the previous academic year. Elon was one of three Southern Conference schools to have both the men's and women's program's recognized.
"Our players continue to work hard both in the classroom and on the field," said Phoenix head coach
Darren Powell. "One of our team goals is to have a team GPA of at least 3.0. I also want to thank our academic coordinators,
Jayme Pendergast and
Cayce Crenshaw, for their support and efforts this past year."
