DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team wrapped up day one of the Duke Fab Four Invitational on Friday, Sept. 14, with several outstanding performances.
Stefan Fortmann and
Cameron Silverman both shined for the maroon and gold in both singles and doubles. Fortmann rallied from behind for a three-set win (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) over Virginia Tech’s Mauricio Antun to advance in his flight. Silverman won in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) over North Carolina’s James Coxe to move on in his flight.
In doubles, the duo battled back and forth against Kentucky’s Panav Jha and Anthony Rossi, coming out on a positive end of a 9-8 (5) victory to move on. Fortmann and Silverman kept it going in the semifinals, topping Louisville’s Stiefelmeyer and Wagner, 8-4. Fortmann and Silverman will play in the finals on Saturday at 9 a.m. against top-seeded Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler from Duke.
The Duke Fab Four resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m.
