BURLINGTON, N.C. - Members of the Elon University men's and women's soccer programs took time out of their schedules earlier this week and gave back to the local community by taking part in the Burlington Parks and Recreation TOPSoccer Program working with young athletes with disabilities.
The Phoenix soccer student-athletes participated in a number of games and activities with the children and other attendees and was deemed a success by the players and the coaching staff.
"It is important our players give back to the community and this is a special program, run by wonderful volunteers right on our doorstep," said Elon men's assistant coach
Shane Carew. "We have received great support from the community attending our home games so we took time this week to do the same."
Both soccer programs will be back in action this weekend starting on Friday, Oct. 11, with the women hosting Wofford before facing Furman at Rudd Field on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Phoenix men will travel to Wofford on Saturday, Oct. 12.
