ELON, N.C. – The Elon softball team added a new opponent to its 2013 schedule, as the Phoenix will host Manhattan College on Sunday, March 3, in a doubleheader with the first pitch slated for 12:30 p.m. and the following game scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Hunt Softball Park.
This will be the first ever meeting between Elon and Manhattan, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Jaspers had its season-opening invitational rained out last weekend and will open their 2013 campaign at Liberty on Saturday, March 2, prior to the matchup with the Phoenix.
The Phoenix (6-5) dropped its most recent contest on Thursday, Feb. 28, against No. 23 Virginia Tech in a 2-1 pitchers’ duel.
Kayla Caruso pitched her fourth consecutive complete game and allowed only one earned run with three strikeouts.
Reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week
Tomeka Watson enters Sunday’s contest on a eight game hitting streak, the second longest in her career. Elon is leading the SoCon in a number of offensive categories, including home runs (16), RBI (54), slugging percentage (.577), on-base percentage (.411) and is the only team currently batting over .300 (.320).
On Deck
Elon will travel to Charlotte on Wednesday, March 6, for a doubleheader with the 49ers. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
