Athletic Training Staff Welcomes Two New Members


ELON, N.C. -- Elon University's athletic training staff has added two members to help in the care of the Phoenix's student-athletes.  Joining the staff are Matthew Kingsbury and Alissa Jaster.

Kingsbury will work with both the Elon football and women's lacrosse squads while Jaster will work with the women's soccer and softball programs.

Kingsbury spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Maryland where he worked primarily with the football team.  He also added coverage with baseball, gymnastics and cheerleading.  Kingsbury also has had experience at Georgetown University and the University of Arizona.  At Georgetown, Kingsbury served as the certified athletic trainer for men's lacrosse and, at Arizona, he participated in various rehabilitation programs.

He also has experience as an athletic training student at Sherando and John Handley high schools in Virginia where he worked with the football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, soccer, baseball, softball and track and field teams.

Kingsbury holds the title of certified athletic trainer and was licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians.  He earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Shenandoah University in 2001 and his master's degree in athletic training from Shenandoah in 2012.

Jaster comes to Elon after spending the 2012-13 season at the University of Florida where she performed a one-year post-graduate internship with the Gators' swimming and diving program. 

She also performed an undergraduate internship with Northwestern University's football team.  During her undergraduate work, Jaster spent time working with the basketball, baseball and track and field programs at Calvin College as well as the women's soccer team at her alma mater, Grand Valley State University.

Jaster's experience extends to the high school ranks as well as she worked with the Grandville and Forest Hills high schools in Michigan as an undergrad.  With those schools, she worked with the football and men's soccer squads.

She holds athletic training certification and is licensed in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.  Jaster earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Grand Valley State in 2011 and her master's in exercise science from Auburn University in 2012.
