Lacrosse Introduces Signees Garrigan, Graef, Hesselbein, Huger and Hvozdovic


ELON, N.C. – As the Elon women's lacrosse team prepares for it's first season of competition, Phoenix fans can get a better look at all of the program's 22 incoming freshman. Find out more about signees Molly Garrigan (Milton, Ga./Milton), Bridget Graef (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), Sydney Hesselbein (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep), Lane Huger (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and Elle Hvozdovic (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick).
 
Garrigan, a 5'6 attack/midfielder, was a first team all-state selection in 2013 and an honorable mention selection in 2012. She helped Milton to three consecutive area and state championships from 2011-13, finishing the year ranked 10th nationally. Garrigan earned the team's MVP award as a freshman and was a three-year scholar athlete. She was a member of the honor roll as a junior and the Principal's Honor Roll as a senior. Molly, a business major, is the daughter of Bill, a former St. Francis (Pa.) basketball player, and Denise Garrigan.
 
Graef, a 5'8 defender, was a four-year varsity member of the Howard lacrosse team and a two-year captain. She helped the Lions reach regionals her junior season and was also a two-year member and captain of the varsity cross country team. She played club lacrosse for the M&D black team and helped the squad to two National Draw championships. Graef's club team won the 2011 club championship, 2011 Naples Presidents Cup, 2011 & 2012 Capital Cup and the 2012 Champions Cup. She was a four-year scholar athlete, an AP Scholar and named to the honor roll every quarter. Graef served as a MPSSAA student-athlete representative and was a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and the Latin National Honor Society. Bridget, an international business/relations major, is the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Graef.
 
Hesselbein, a 5'7 midfielder, helped Maryvale to the 2012 IAAM Championships and a runner-up finish. She was named an academic all-American and to the Towson Times second team as a senior. Hesselbein was named the team's "unsung hero" in 2013 and earned the "best hustler" award in 2011. She earned second and first honors every semester and was a member of the National Honor Society. Sydney, an exercise science major, is the daughter of Tom and Denise Hesselbein.
 
Huger, a 5'9 defender, was a two-year captain and four-time all-conference first team selection at Cardinal Gibbons. She helped the team to the state championship quarterfinals in 2013 and was named to the Under Armor All-American Southern Team as a junior. Huger played on the North Carolina National Team for two years. She was also a member of the Cardinal Gibbons varsity basketball team, serving as a team captain as a senior. Lane, an exercise science major, is the daughter of Ben and Laurie Huger.
 
Hvozdovic, a 6'0 midfielder, has scored 182 points, 122 goals and 60 assists for South Brunswick and helped the team to three Greater Middlesex County (GMC) conference championships (2010, 2011, 2012). She was named a Brine National High School All-American in 2012, selected All-GMC conference/county first team by the Star-Ledger and coaches in 2011 and 2012 and named the 2012 GMC Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Hvozdovic led the team in goals, assists and draw controls in 2012 and helped the team reach state semifinals (group IV) in both 2010 and 2012. She was also a member of the school's varsity volleyball team during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Off the field, Hvozdovic was a member of the PEER leadership program and the National Honor Society. Elle is the daughter of Bernard and Susan Hvozdovic.
 
All five athletes will begin competing for the Phoenix in the upcoming 2014 season.
