ELON, N.C. – Coming off its first-ever victory in the NCAA Tournament, the Elon University men's soccer team travels to second-seeded Clemson for the second round of the national tournament on Sunday night, Nov. 22, at Historic Riggs Field. That match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff time.

Series HistoryHeading into Sunday's match, both programs have met six times on the soccer pitch in a series that dates to 1998. The Phoenix and the Tigers are deadlocked at 2-2-2 in the all-time series, but Elon has a current four-match unbeaten streak versus Clemson. In the last meeting in 2013, Elon and Clemson met in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Elon. The Phoenix advanced to the second round of the national tournament for the first time in school history after earning 4-1 victory in penalty kicks in the shootout round after both teams battled to a official 1-1 draw during regulation and overtime play.
Back to the NCAAsElon is in to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time overall, its first trip since the 2013 season and its first as an at-large bid. Overall, Elon has a record of 1-3-1 in its five games in the national tournament.
Last Time OutElon earned a 3-0 victory over Winthrop in the opening round match of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 19.

Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler each provided a goal in the contest with Brace scoring the Phoenix's first opening stanza goal since Vandermaas-Peeler did so at Duke on Oct. 20. Redshirt freshman keeper
Matthew Jegier also made a career-high seven saves on the match and earned his ninth clean sheet of the year. The win advanced the Phoenix to the second round of the national tournament for the second time in school history as well as its first official victory in the NCAA Tournament. Elon also advanced to the second round in its match in 2013 versus Clemson, but that game ended in an official draw after both programs went through regulation and both overtime periods tied at 1-1.
About Elon (14-5-1)Brace's score against Winthrop placed him in a tie for eighth all-time in school history in career goals (22) and career points (55). The Hartlepool, England, native still leads the Phoenix overall in total points on the year with 17, followed by Alavarez with 16. Alvarez is the Phoenix's overall leader in goals scored with seven and has tallied goal in the previous two games.
Jegier's clean sheet placed him with a tie for No. 2 all-time in school history for shutouts in a single-season with nine. The young netminder had his first shutout since College of Charleston on Oct. 31, and his first clean sheet in regulation since Oct. 10 versus Lipscomb.
Since 2010, Elon has posted a 5-2-4 overall record against opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference. This year, Elon went 1-1 versus ACC foes with its lone win coming at then No. 7 Wake Forest on Sept. 16.
Scouting Clemson (15-2-2, 6-1-1 ACC)Clemson (15-2-2) had won nine straight and was unbeaten in its last 13 games prior to dropping its recent match to Syracuse, 2-0, in the semifinals of the ACC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Tigers received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on the strength of its No. 2 RPI rating. Overall, the Tigers are third in the recent NSCAA poll and received one first-place vote.
The Tigers have scored 43 goals on the season with 11 players scoring at least one goal. T.J. Casner is the leading scorer for Clemson with team-highs in points (19) and goals (eight). Seniors Paul Clowes (2g, 1a) and Kyle Fisher (1g, 1a) were named the 2015 ACC Midfielder of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
On the defensive front, Clemson has allowed only 13 goals all season and only two multi-goal games on the year. Netminder Andrew Tarbell has nearly all but five minutes in goal this season for the Tigers and has a GAA of 0.67 and a .829 save percentage.

Nathan Diehl was tabbed the CAA Defensive Player of the Year by the league coaches and earned first team All-CAA accolades. Fellow seniors

Miguel Salazar also earned first team All-CAA accolades while senior midfielder

Sam McBride took spots on the All-CAA third team. Keeper

Jaiden Fortune were picked to the CAA All-Rookie team while junior netminder Chris Shannon represented the team on the CAA All-Academic team.
Elon Sits at No. 25 in NCAA RPI ReportIn the most recent NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) report, Elon is sitting at No. 25 in the nation and is the highest ranked CAA team. Clemson is the No. 2 team in the nation in terms of RPI behind fellow ACC foe Wake Forest.
Spreading the WealthElon has had 11 different players find the back of the net this season, its highest total since the 2011 season. Of that total, the Phoenix has seven players with multi-goals this year and nine players with more than 10 shots. Elon has also seen 16 players tally at least one assist on the year of its 20 players that have registered a minute of playing time including keeper
Matthew Jegier, who had an assist in Elon's 2-1 win over Northeastern on Oct. 7.
Up NextWith a win, the Phoenix advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner between UC Santa Barbara and South Carolina. That match will be played on either Nov. 28-29.
