Each week leading up to Elon's spring football game on April 25, a Phoenix player or coach will be featured in a question and answer segment and share their thoughts on the upcoming season.
Â
This week's participant is
Scott Browne, running backs coach for the Phoenix. Browne joined the Elon football staff in 2007 and coached alongside head coach
Rich Skrosky, who served as Elon's offensive line coach (2006-2008) as well as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2009-2010) before being hired as head coach in 2013.
Â
Q: What has the focus been during the first few days of spring practice?
A: For the running backs, it's been a focus on coming out with the right energy and focus, and they've done that. The first two days have been good.
Â
Q: What has been the biggest difference from year one to year two under Coach Skrosky?
A: I think the guys understand what we want out of them. I think they know the offense, the defense and the special teams that much better and so we've got something to build off of. Where last year it was all new, now they know how we want this drill to be run and so that's been the biggest thing.
Â
Q: How has your familiarity with Coach Skrosky eased the transition?
A: For me, it's a great advantage because I've been in the offense. In terms of teaching the running backs the new offense, it made that transition a lot easier.
Â
Q: How is the health of the running backs after losing
B.J. Bennett to a season-ending injury last year?
A: B.J. has come back strong. He got hurt there during the Coastal Carolina game. He's back to 100 percent and I really think over the winter, the guys have done a good job of working out and conditioning themselves to get to this point. From a health standpoint, we're right where we should be.
Â
Q: What have you seen out of the first-year players in the first few practices?
A: They've looked good. With those guys being freshmen, everything is new. Those older guys have been around at least a year now. Those new guys have done a great job of getting in with the coaches and knowing and understanding what we want out of them. They've come out here with a real purpose of trying to get better.
