RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association released its 2015 postseason awards today, April 15, with multiple Elon University men's tennis players earning honors for their play this season.
Â
Stefan Fortmann was named the CAA Player of the Year, marking the third straight year that a Phoenix has earned conference Player of the Year honors (
Cameron Silverman in 2013 and 2014). Fortmann tied for the team lead with 12 singles wins at the No. 1 position and finished the regular season by winning eight of his final 10 matches.
Â
The Wartburg, South Africa, native was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection in singles and a second-team All-SoCon selection in doubles in 2014, helping Elon win the SoCon Tournament title and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Fortmann was also named first-team All-CAA in singles along with fellow senior
Jordan Kaufman. Kaufman, who was honored as the CAA Player of the Week on March 31, matched Fortmann with 12 singles wins to tie for the team lead, winning six of his final seven singles matches to finish the regular season.
Â
Fortmann and doubles partner
Brian Kowalski were named first-team All-CAA in doubles after an impressive season at the No. 1 position. The duo racked up 11 victories together and was named CAA Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 18 while in the midst of a seven-match winning streak.
Â
Rounding out this year's Elon honorees is
Dan Sablik, who was named to the CAA All-Academic Team for 2015. The senior posted a perfect 2-0 record in doubles play this season, winning both of his matches against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central.
Â
Elon will travel to Williamsburg, Va., this weekend to participate in the CAA Men's Tennis Championships. The second-seeded Phoenix will face seventh-seeded Drexel in a quarterfinal match on Friday, March 17, at 6 p.m.
