Maroon Tops White in Elon Spring Game

ELON, N.C. – Connor Christiansen threw for a game-high 125 yards and scored on a 2-yard run as time expired to give the Maroon team a 6-3 win over the White team in the Elon University football team's annual Spring Game today, April 25, at Rhodes Stadium.

The Maroon team trailed, 3-0, with two minutes to play in the final quarter before Christiansen engineered a 10-play, 67-yard drive that culminated in a game-winning touchdown run. On the drive, the redshirt freshman connected with Doug Warrick and Efrim Borders for gains of 14 and 23 yards, respectively, and completed 12-of-24 passes on the night.

Thompson, the starting quarterback for the White team, completed 7-of-20 passes for 101 yards, including a 33-yard strike to Josh Ramseur.

"The quarterback competition has been awesome and I enjoy working with those guys every day," Elon head coach Rich Skrosky said. "They both have a lot of intangible leadership qualities that you look for in a quarterback, they're both really competitive kids and they're both great teammates and that at the end of the day is going to help our program move in the direction we want it to move."

The game was scoreless after the first of the two quarters and John Gallagher scored the only points of the game for the White team with a 32-yard field goal with 5:45 left to play.

It was a defensive battle for most of the game, as the two teams combined for nine sacks. Dominic Bourne had two sacks on the night for the Maroon team while Alexander Dawson was the leading tackler with nine stops for the White team.

Julius Moore, playing for the White team, recorded the only interception of the game, picking off a Christiansen pass and returning it 23 yards early in the second quarter.

Warrick was the leading receiver, catching six passes for a game-high 50 yards. Ramseur hauled in four passes for 44 yards and Tracey Coppedge was the leading rusher with 10 carries for 57 yards for the Maroon team.
