RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Luke Matthews of the Elon University men's soccer team was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 10.
 
Matthews helped the Phoenix to its first CAA victory of the year with a 1-0 win at Northeastern this past Saturday, Oct. 8. Despite being outshot by the Huskies 16-13, the Swindon, England, native aided the Phoenix to its fifth overall clean sheet of the season while manning all 90 minutes at one of the center back positions. On the year, Matthews is one of two players to have manned every minute on the pitch this season for the Phoenix.
 
Elon is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to host William & Mary with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
