DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team tallied another road win tonight, Sept. 6, with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 26-24) final at Davidson in Belk Arena. For the fourth time in as many matches,
Sydel Curry set a new career high with 53 assists to average 13.25 assists per set.

The Phoenix (5-2) was led by a career and match-high 25 kills from
Kam Terry who tallied her third double-double of the season with 11 digs.
Kayla Agae also claimed a double-double, her fourth straight, after 13 kills and a match-high 21 digs. On defense,
Maddie Jaudon posted 20 digs, while
Michelle Klein recorded a match-high five total blocks.

The Wildcats (2-5) saw a team-high 16 kills from Kelly Friers, while Mason Rooney and Mikayla Derochie finished with 25 and 24 assists, respectively. Elise Edman tallied a team-high 21 digs with Emily Franklin and Sabrina Shepherd both posted four total blocks.

How it Happened
The first set saw nine ties by the time the score reached 13-all before a kill by Terry sparked a 5-2 run for the Phoenix to take a 19-15 lead and force a Davidson timeout. With the maroon and gold still in front by three, 20-17, kills by Agae and Klein helped Elon reach set point as a solo block by Klein closed out the 25-17 win.

With the Phoenix leading by one, 13-12, in the second set, two kills by Terry and one each by Scott and Curry extended the advantage to four, 18-14. After a kill and ace by Agae gave Elon a six-point lead, 20-14, the Wildcats managed to close the gap back to three, 22-19. The Phoenix rallied and claimed the final three points to win the set, 25-19, and take a 2-0 match lead.

The Wildcats came out battling in the third set to take an early 8-5 lead. The Phoenix eventually closed the gap to two, 15-13, off a Scott kill before DC went on a 5-1 run for a 20-14 advantage. Elon used a Karle kill and a block Klein and Scott to pull within four, 20-16, but the Wildcats pulled on a 25-18 win to keep the match going to a fourth set.

With the maroon and gold trailing by one, 5-4, four straight kills by Scott sparked a 7-0 run to put the Phoenix in front, 11-5. Elon extended its lead to eight, 16-8, after back-to-back kills by Terry to force the Wildcats to call its final timeout. Davidson climbed back within two, 23-21, before a kill by Terry gave the maroon and gold set point, 24-21. The Wildcats evened the set, 24-all, but a kill by Curry and a block by Scott and Karle closed out the set, 26-24, and the match for the Phoenix.

Elon now leads the all-time series against Davidson, 12-11…The Phoenix has won six of the last seven meetings…Elon has now won three straight against Davidson in Belk Arena.

This weekend, the Phoenix hosts its annual Elon Phoenix Classic, welcoming Norfolk State, Wofford, Delaware State and Gardner-Webb to Alumni Gym Friday, Sept. 9 – Saturday, Sept. 10. Elon takes on the Spartans and Terriers on Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. On Sept. 10, the Phoenix plays the Hornets at 11:30 a.m. before closing out the Elon Phoenix Classic against the Runnin' Bulldogs at 7 p.m. that evening.
