ELON, N.C. – Every Monday, Phoenix fans can get a look at the week ahead with our "Elon Athletics Weekly Update" feature when we will preview all the week's upcoming events for our sports teams.

• Coming off its bye, Elon ran its winning streak to six games with a 35-34 victory at Rhode Island. Once again, the game came down to the final seconds as the Rams were driving for a potential game-winning score when linebacker Warren Messer, who was added to the watch list for the Buck Buchanan Award last week, intercepted a pass with 28 seconds remaining.
• Offensively, a trio of Elon players put up some big numbers, setting career highs along the way. Quarterback Davis Cheek threw for 331 yards and matched his season high with three touchdown passes. Running back De'Sean McNair notched the first 100-yard game of his career, carrying the ball 28 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Corey Joyner hauled in eight passes for 185 yards and one touchdown.
• After recording the 500th win in program history on Saturday, Elon will look to run its winning streak to seven games by visiting the Villanova Wildcats this weekend. This will be the first trip to Villanova for the Phoenix.
 
Cross Country
Elon vs. CAA Cross Country Championships | Saturday, Oct. 28 | 10 a.m. | Elon Cross Country Course
• The Elon cross country programs host the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships this Saturday on its home course in Elon. The meet will be the first  conference championship held at Elon since 2009. The women's 6K race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11 a.m.
• Since joining the CAA in 2014, the Elon men's team has had an individual win the individual league championship each season with reigning two-time champion Nick Ciolkowski looking to three-peat this weekend. Ciolkowski earned the league's Runner of the Week last Tuesday after clocking a 24:39.3 in his season-debut at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 14.
• Both teams will look to garner its best CAA team finish at the meet on Saturday, as both squads finished third at last year's championships in Delaware. The Elon women return a pair of All-CAA runners from last season in junior Coralea Geraniotis and sophomore Melissa Anastasakis, who also was the CAA Female Cross Country Rookie of the Year in 2017. 
• The CAA will stream the finish of both races and the award ceremony through Facebook Live on the league's official page.
   
Men's Golf
Not in competition this week
• The Phoenix earned its fourth straight Top 5 finish over the weekend at the Camden Collegiate Invitational. Patrick Frodigh finished in the Top 10 for the second straight tournament, finishing in a tie for fifth individually.
• Elon men's golf has one fall tournament remaining on its schedule, The Invitational in Hollywood, S.C., hosted by the College of Charleston. The event will take place Nov. 3-4.

• The Phoenix wraps up its regular season slate this week with trips to intrastate and former conference foe Davison before trekking to Delaware for its finale on Saturday.
• Elon moved into the sixth spot for the league's six-team postseason tournament after earning a 1-0 victory over Drexel in its most recent contest on Saturday, Oct. 21, the final regular-season home match. Elijah Agu scored the lone goal of the contest for the Phoenix, the 15th of his career. The Cary, N.C., native was able to cap his senior night along with Jonathan Coleby.
• Matthew Jegier tied the program's all-time career shutout record with the 25th of his career on Saturday versus the Dragons. The redshirt junior is tied with Nathan Dean '14 on the top of the program's career list.
• Elon will need a win or a draw at Delaware to clinch the final spot for the CAA Tournament. The Phoenix sits one point ahead of the Blue Hens in the standings heading into the final weekend of the season.
 
Men's Tennis
Fall season complete
• Elon finished its fall campaign over the weekend with a very successful showing at the Spartan Fall Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. 
• Taking on opponents from UNCG, Furman, East Carolina and UNC Asheville, Elon players claimed both the singles and doubles flight titles of the tournament with Kyle Frankel taking the singles title and Felipe Osses-Konig and Neal Port earling the doubles win.
• Frankel had an outstanding 3-0 weekend, defeating Olly Cull of UNC Asheville and Oliver Palmer of UNCG in straight sets before defeating Vlad Anghel of ECU in three sets on Sunday. 
 
Women's Golf
Not in competition this week
• The Phoenix women's golf program has one fall tournament remaining on its schedule, the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga. The event will be held Oct. 30-31.
• In its last tournament, Elon was led by Heather Munro's four-under 212 (69-70-73) to tie for seventh individually at the Pinehurst Challenge. Munro posted the lowest 54-hole score of her career and it was the second consecutive Top-10 individual finish for the senior.
 
Women's Soccer (9-6-4, 2-4-3 CAA)
Season complete
• The Phoenix fell to the Drexel Dragons 4-0 in its season finale on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, at Rudd Field.
• Sunday's match was also Elon's Senior Day. Before the game, the Phoenix honored its seven-member senior class of Susannah Anderson, Kendall Ballotti, Grace Bennett, Molly Gradl, Amanda Lasater, Hanna Macaulay, Sydney Schilling.
• Elon had a chance to clinch a berth in the 2017 CAA Women's Soccer Championships with a win on Sunday. The Phoenix could have also made the tournament with a loss or a draw, but William & Mary defeated Towson 3-1 to clinch the sixth and final spot in the tournament.
 
Women's Tennis
Not in competition this week
• Elon completed its fourth tournament of the fall season at the ITA Carolinas Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. last week.
• Suzanne Zenoni highlighted Elon's efforts, winning her singles main draw consolation first round match against Maria Zacarias.
• The Phoenix closes out the fall season next week from Nov. 4-6 at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina.
 
Volleyball (14-11, 3-7 CAA)

• Elon opened its four-match road trip with outings at Towson and Delaware over the weekend, but dropped both matches to the Tigers and Blue Hens. 
• The Phoenix is now in a tie for sixth place in the CAA standings with Delaware after its 3-1 loss Sunday, Oct. 22, to the Blue Hens. Six teams advance to next month's CAA Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va.
• Elon will close its four-match road trip this week with a Wednesday night, Oct. 25, match at William & Mary before heading to James Madison for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 29. Elon beat William & Mary in four sets back on Sept. 28, but lost 3-0 to James Madison on Sept. 25 in Alumni Gym.
