Women’s Tennis Adds Galvin and Rizzolo for 2019-20 Season

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head women's tennis coach Elizabeth Anderson announced the additions of Shauna Galvin (Fort Worth, Texas) and Kiana Rizzolo (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) for the 2019-20 season.
 
"We are thrilled with the signing of Shauna [Galvin] and Kiana [Rizzolo]," said Anderson. "Both players are very driven academically and athletically. We know they will both be strong assets to our university and our team."
 
Rizzolo joins the Phoenix after playing tennis with Pro Performance Institute. She has achieved a ranking as high as 70th in the nation and is currently the 16th-ranked player in the state of Florida for her senior class. Rizzolo also was ranked as high as 65th nationally during the 2017 season. During her successful junior career, she reached the semifinals of the Copa Mangu Grade 5 ITF tournament. Rizzolo also won back-to-back doubles titles and reached the quarterfinals in singles at the Copa Manguilla ITF tournament. Additionally, she won an ITA Oracle tournament, claimed tournament titles at three USTA National tournaments in doubles, reached the finals at two USTA Sectional tournaments and made the Round of 16 at Winter Nationals. Rizzolo has a strong tennis background as her older sister Kayla played collegiately at the University of Miami and went on to play professionally, her other older sister Carlee played at Nova Southeastern University and her older brother Donato played at Mary Washington.
 
Galvin trained at the Dent Tennis Academy and attended R.L. Paschal High School in Forth Worth, Texas. She has been ranked as high as 84th nationally in 2018 and is the No. 7-ranked player in the state of Texas for her class. At the junior level, Galvin recently had success advancing through the Qualifying Draw of the Austin ITF tournament and reaching the semifinals of the Doubles Main Draw of the Austin ITF tournament. She was also the winner of the USTA G18s Texas Super Champ Major Zone as well are finishing as a finalist at the USTA National Section Level 3 G18s in singles action and the USTA National Section Level 2 G18s in doubles play. Additionally, Galvin was a finalist for the Texas Grand Slam and a member of the USTA Texas Intersectional Team in 2015, and she received the Courage Award at USTA Regional Player Development Camp. While attending R.L. Paschal High School, Galvin was a four-time All-District selection in singles and doubles, a Region 1 Regional Champion for singles and doubles, and a three-time third-place finisher at the State Championships in doubles. Additionally, she was the 2018 Fort Worth Star Telegram's Tomlinson Honors Player of the Year Tennis Nominee, the 2016 R.L. Paschal High School Newcomer of the Year, and will graduate with Distinguished Level of Achievement.
