WACO, Texas – Picking up his second All-America honor of the 2018 season, Elon University senior offensive lineman CJ Toogood has been named an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Second Team All-American on Friday, Dec. 21.
 
Toogood's honor marks the first time an Elon football player has been named an All-American by the nation's coaches since Aaron Mellette was a first-team honoree in 2012. Elon Hall of Famer Terrell Hudgins is the only other player in Elon's Division I era to earn AFCA All-America honors, earning first-team laurels in 2009.
 
With the recognition, Toogood has now twice been named an All-American after earning third-team honors from the Associated Press last week on Dec. 11. He was also lauded as a First Team All-CAA Football honoree in November after the conclusion of the regular season.
 
Throughout his senior season, Toogood started all 11 games and helped Elon's rushing attack average 199.5 yards per outing to finish second in the conference in the category. He also blocked for a running game that scored 22 of the team's 31 touchdowns on the year while also allowing a CAA-low 16 sacks throughout the campaign. Early in the year, Toogood moved from left guard to left tackle due to an injury on the offensive line and continued to excel in his new role.
 
Toogood is one of seven CAA Football players to earn AFCA All-America distinction, marking the most individuals from a single conference in the country.
