CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon University dropped a 12-1 contest Tuesday afternoon, March 13, to fifth-ranked North Carolina at Finley Field in Chapel Hill. Originally slated for 6 p.m. at Elon, the game was moved to Chapel Hill after inclement weather Monday left Rudd Field unplayable.

THE RUNDOWN
North Carolina (5-2, 1-0 ACC) scored all 12 of its goals before the Phoenix could get on the board with less than 12 minutes to play in the game. While UNC scored just once in the opening 10 minutes, the Tar Heels started to break through with two goals in a span of 17 seconds to lead 3-0 after 10:23 of action.

Down the stretch in the first half, UNC tallied six more times in the opening frame and took a 9-0 lead to halftime. Though the Tar Heels made it 10-0 in the opening five minutes of the second half, Elon's defense settled in and allowed just three goals in the second 30 minutes to a team that averages 15.0 goals per game.

Though trailing 12-0,
Stephanie Asher broke through with Elon's only tally – her 16th of the year – with 11:51 to go in the game. But neither side was able to add another goal down the stretch.

HIGHLIGHTS
Asher scored Elon's only goal of the afternoon and had one draw control.
Leah Zadjura picked up three ground balls to lead the team while also causing three turnovers.

Marie McCool, Ela Hazar and Katie Hoeg all scored a game-high three times while Hazar had five assists for eight points. Charlotte Sofield finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. McCool also picked up a game-best five draw controls.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix will play two in a row on the road this weekend with a neutral-site game Friday, March 16, at 1 p.m. against Winthrop before taking on Coastal Carolina on Sunday, March 18, at 1 p.m. Both games are set to take place in Conway, S.C.
