SERIES HISTORY
-Elon leads the all-time series against the Rams with a 2-1 advantage.
-The Phoenix has won each of the last two meetings between the two teams, topping the Rams 35-34 in 2017 before earning a 24-21 Homecoming victory in 2018 at Rhodes Stadium.
-Each of the last two meetings have been highlighted by explosive Elon plays. In 2017, Rhode Island was driving for the lead before
Warren Messer intercepted a pass on the Elon 19 with less than 30 seconds to play in the game to seal the victory. In 2018,
Jaylan Thomas broke an 86-yard rush to the house with less than two minutes to go before halftime and on the ensuing drive, Messer again came up with an interception, one in which he returned 86 yards to put Elon up 21-7 at the break on the way to the three-point win.
LAST TIME OUT
-Behind a 22-for-25 passing day from
Davis Cheek for a season-high 259 yards and a touchdown, Elon cruised past No. 15 Delaware 42-7 on Oct. 12 to snap a three-game losing skid.
-
Greg Liggs, Jr. also returned a pick-six 42 yards to help Elon take a halftime score of 7-0 to a final of 42-7.
-The Phoenix led 7-0 at halftime before scoring on each of its final five possessions of the game to pull away from the Blue Hens.
-With the win, Elon has now defeated a nationally-ranked team in each of the last four seasons. Before the streak, its last win over a ranked team came during the 2011 season.
