11/21/2019 3:17:00 PM

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Elon University volleyball opens the 2019 CAA Championship Tournament against the fourth-seeded Northeastern Huskies (15-13, 9-7 CAA) this Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m.

"After splitting our regular season matches with many close sets, we know this quarterfinal will be a battle," said head coach Mary Tendler. "Northeastern has a talented team with a lot of offensive weapons. Our team is prepared and very confident as we try to upset the higher seed and move on to the semifinals."

Hofstra is hosting the three-day tournament at the David S. Mack Educational Center. The winner of Friday's quarterfinal match will advance to a semifinal meeting with regular-season champion Towson, to be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Championship Final is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday, Nov. 24.

SERIES HISTORY
Both programs won on their home courts as Elon and Northeastern split the regular season series, marking the fourth time in the last five seasons the two teams have done so. The Phoenix took a Sept. 29 meeting in five sets as the maroon and gold rallied from an 0-2 deficit. However, the Huskies won in four sets on Oct. 26 to improve to 9-4 in the all-time series.

In the second meeting, Kellyn Trowse hit .233 and led Elon with 10 kills. Haylie Clark contributed a 12-assist, 12-dig double-double, and Kodi Garcia totaled 20 assists. Isabella Seman recorded a match-high 16 digs, Natalie Cummins made five blocks, and Leah Daniel and Jenn Krzeminski followed with four blocks each.

DANIEL EARNS FIRST TEAM ALL-CAA HONORS
The CAA released its 2019 Volleyball Postseason Honors earlier on Thursday and Leah Daniel was selected to the All-CAA First Team.

The Zionsville, Ind. native led Elon with 454 kills and 3.88 kills per set and added 16 service aces, four assists, 127 digs, and 65.0 blocks (seven solo) to her totals. She garnered All-Tournament Team selections at the Robert Morris Sheraton Invitational and the UVA Jefferson Cup, and was tabbed the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30. In wins over Hofstra and Northeastern, she hit .239 with 35 kills (3.89/set), two service aces, nine digs, five blocks (one solo), and 40.0 points. Daniel reached double-digit kills in all but three matches during the regular season and had a streak of 18 matches with double-figure scoring.

As of Nov. 20, she ranks 22nd in the nation in both kills and total points (506.0) and is 36th in total attacks (1,170). She is also second in the league with 10.00 attacks per set.
