ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to Campbell, 60-46, on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
 
The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield, who dropped a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds on the evening. Freshman forward Zac Ervin chipped in 11 points in the loss.
 
Campbell was led by Cedric Henderson, who recorded 15 points, three rebounds and two assists in the contest.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
After falling behind 14-2 to start the game, Marcus Sheffield got things going for the Phoenix, scoring back-to-back baskets to spark a 7-0 run. The spurt, culminated by a Simon Wright bucket followed by a Chuck Hannah free throw, cut the Camels lead down to 5 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half.
 
With the Camels leading by nine with just over two minutes until halftime, Simon Wright scored four quick points to bring Elon back within five. A few moments later, Marcus Sheffield stepped to the line and knocked down a free throw to cut the Camels lead to four entering the break.
 
Elon entered the half trailing 25-21.
 
Trailing by 15 early in the second half, Zac Ervin made back-to-back reverse layups to cut the deficit down to 11. On the next trip down the court, Marcus Sheffield found some space from beyond the arc and knocked down a triple that brought Elon back within eight. After a quick bucket by the Camels, Zac Ervin drained a shot from three point land to cap a 10-2 Phoenix run and cut the score to 42-35 with just over eight minutes remaining.
 
A late run by Campbell sealed a 60-46 victory over the Phoenix.

- The Phoenix shot 34.8 percent from the floor, including a 25.0 percent clip from beyond the arc.
