Elon Women’s Basketball Falls to Coastal Carolina, 76-65

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Elon University women's basketball team came up short in its matchup against Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Dec. 19.
 
Three Elon players scored in the double digits to lead the Phoenix offense. Jaylin Powell, Brie Perpignan, and Ariana Nance scored 10 points apiece, with Nance's total tying her career high. Just one point behind them was Micaela Ryan, who set a new career best in points (9) and three pointers (3). 
 
On defense, Perpignan, Jada Graves, and Kayla Liles all tallied a pair of steals, while Maya Johnson recorded one block.
 
DJ Williams totaled a game-best 27 points and three steals for the Chanticleers,

THE RUNDOWN
 
After trailing 20-12 at the end of the first quarter, Ariel Colón knocked down a three ball that started a 7-1 run to cut the Chanticleer lead to 2 (21-19). The Phoenix came within one point of Coastal Carolina four separate times in the remainder of the half thanks to scoring from Saadia Munford, Johnson, and Ryan. The Chants ended the half with a three-point advantage (34-31).
 
The second half belonged to the Chanticleers. After opening the third quarter with a 20-0 run, Coastal Carolina took the momentum that stayed with them for the remainder of the game. With 41 seconds left to go in the fourth quarter, Elon made one last offensive push with a 6-0 run. But the win ended up going to the Chanticleers.  
   
NOTES 
-Elon now holds a 4-6 record on the season.
-As a team, the Phoenix scored nine three pointers, setting a new season high.
-21of Elon's points came from Coastal Carolina's 18 turnovers.
-The Chanticleers now lead the overall series 12-7.

Elon has an 11-day break before its next context. The Phoenix heads to Greenville, S.C. to face Furman in its last nonconference game of the regular season on Monday, De. 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
