WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced on Friday, Dec. 20 that Elon University football defensive back Greg Liggs, Jr. was named a 2019 First Team AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America selection.
 
Setting a new Elon Division I record for single-season interceptions, Liggs finished his senior season with an FCS-best eight. He also finished his career in the maroon and gold as the Division I leader in interceptions with 15. A finalist for the 2019 Buck Buchanan Award watch list finishing 16th in the nation in national voting, Liggs was named a First Team All-CAA Football honoree after the campaign after earning Second Team honors in 2018. Throughout the year, the Greensboro, N.C., native had a pair of three-interception games against New Hampshire and Rhode Island and also intercepted Tom Flacco with 21 seconds to play in the season finale at No. 19 Towson to seal Elon's come-from-behind 25-23 victory. He closed the season with 49 tackles, marking the fifth-most on the team.
 
This marks Liggs' fourth All-America award of the 2019 offseason. He also named a First Team STATS FCS Football All-America selection, First Team Associated Press All-American, and First Team HERO Sports All-America honoree.
 
The 2019 season is the second in a row that an Elon football player has earned All-America recognition from the AFCA. CJ Toogood earned second-team honors in 2018.
 
With the 2020 football schedule announced in November, Elon will next be back on the field Sept. 5 for a road matchup against The Citadel. Next season, Elon will open with two on the road at The Citadel and Duke (Sept. 12) before playing at Rhodes Stadium on Sept. 19 against Campbell. For the full schedule, click here.
