Phoenix Vists Towson, Hosts Delaware to Continue CAA Play

Elon Notes vs. Towson
ELON, N.C. – Continuing Colonial Athletic Association play, Elon University women's lacrosse will take on Towson on Friday night, April 12, at Unitas Stadium before coming home on Sunday, April 14, for a 12 p.m. game against Delaware at Rudd Field. Friday's game will air on Lax Sports Network with Sunday's outing set to air on Phoenix All-Access. 

THE GAMES ARE...
-...the 98th and 99th games in program history
-...the program's 47th road game on Friday and the 45th home game on Sunday in program history
-...Elon's fourth time visiting Towson and third time hosting Delaware in program history
-...Josh Hexter's 212th and 213th games as a college head coach and 98th and 99th at Elon
-...Elon's 25th and 26th games against a CAA opponent

-...be the 47th win in program history
-...be the 119th win for head coach Josh Hexter in his career

SCOUTING TOWSON
-Towson has struggled to a 2-9 mark thus far this year, but nine of its 11 games have come against nationally-ranked teams. 
-To open CAA play last weekend, the Tigers fell 11-7 on the road against No. 10 James Madison.
-Natalie Sulmonte leads the Tigers with 28 goals and five assists for 33 points to go with a team-best 34 draw controls. Kaitlin Thornton has 19 goals and a team-best 10 assists for 29 points. Olivia Conte and goalie Kiley Keating have picked up 29 ground balls and Sami Chenoweth has caused 45 turnovers. 

SCOUTING DELAWARE
-Standing 6-6 on the year, Delaware owns a 2-5 record at home but is 4-1 away from Newark.
-Last weekend, Delaware opened CAA play by hosting No. 10 James Madison and fell 10-3 at Grant Stadium. The Blue Hens are set to visit William & Mary on Friday night before making the trip to Elon.
-Christine Long leads the team with 37 goals, but Mia DeRuggiero has a team-best 49 points with 10 goals and 39 assists. Chantae Simms has a team-best 34 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers while Caroline Farley has 61 draw controls. 

THE SERIES vs. TOWSON
-Elon and Towson have met seven times to date to mark the most meetings against a single team for the Phoenix to date. Overall, Towson leads the series 6-1.
-The two sides have met in the semifinals of each of the last three CAA Tournaments. Elon took a 10-9 overtime victory in the semis in 2017 to advance to its first conference title game in program history.
-Last year, Towson beat Elon 10-4 in the regular season and the Tigers took a 9-7 decision in the CAA Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va.

THE SERIES vs. DELAWARE
-Elon leads the all-time series with the Blue Hens 3-1 and has won each of the last three games between the two sides since dropping the first meeting in 2015.
-Last season, Elon earned a 10-6 road victory over the Blue Hens after winning a 6-3 game in 2-17 and a 5-4 game in 2016. Last year's 10 goals for the Phoenix marked the first time either team hit double-digit goals in a game in the series to date.

LAST TIME OUT
-Though leading 5-2 at halftime, Elon couldn't hold the CAA's leading scorer down in the second half with Alyssa Parrella scoring five second-half goals to lead Hofstra to a 10-6 win on Sunday at Rudd Field.
-Cami Lynch led Elon with three points on two goals and an assist. Kaley Thompson finished with four draw controls and Gillian Curran picked up three ground balls on the day.  

PRESEASON ALL-CAA LISTS
-Elon was picked third in the CAA for the third consecutive season. The Phoenix has reached the CAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in each of the last three seasons and has battled second-seeded Towson on all three occasions in the semifinals.
-Quinn Daly was picked as a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention in 2019 after earning CAA All-Rookie accolades after her first season in 2018.

CAA WEEKLY HONORS
-Mae McGlynn was named the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 11 after her five-goal performance against Campbell in the season opener.
-Bella Feldman was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 11 after scoring four goals at Campbell in her collegiate debut.
-Kaley Thompson picked up CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 26 after a week with four goals, five assists and 13 draw controls in Elon's two games. Against Winthrop, Thompson finished with four goals, four assists and eight draw controls. 
-Thompson earned a second CAA Rookie of the Week honor on April 8 after scoring six goals against Drexel in Elon's CAA opener. In all, she tallied seven goals and had nine draw controls during Elon's CAA opening weekend. 

ELON ON LAX SPORTS NETWORK
-This season, Elon will be featured on Lax Sports Network twice in April during CAA play.
-First, the Phoenix will meet Towson on this Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
-Elon's second appearance on LSN will come Friday, April 19, when it meets defending national champion James Madison at 5 p.m.
-The 2019 CAA Championships in Harrisonburg, Va., will also air on LSN.

UP NEXT
-After meeting Delaware, Elon will have three more regular-season games on the docket with two CAA games. Next time out, the Phoenix will go back on the road to visit defending national champion James Madison. Opening draw on Lax Sports Network is set for 5 p.m. at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
