Thompson Wins Second CAA Rookie of the Week Honor

4/8/2019 2:15:00 PM

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University first-year attacker Kaley Thompson has been named the CAA Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on Monday, April 8, after a solid weekend at home for the Phoenix.

The Bel Air, Md., native had a career day in Elon's CAA opener on the way to a strong overall weekend. Along the way, she scored seven goals on 13 shots and finished with nine draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Against Drexel, Thompson scored six goals in Elon's 13-11 victory Friday. The six-goal game marks the second-most goals in a single game in program history and it's the first time since Stephanie Asher scored six goals on April 22, 2018, against the Dragons. Thompson also finished with five draw controls in the game and led Elon in draw controls in both weekend outings to start CAA action.

The honor is the second of the year for Thompson, who won after a four-goal, four-assist, eight-draw control game in February against Winthrop.

Thompson and the Phoenix will be back in action Friday night, April 12, for a 7 p.m. game on the road against Towson. The contest at Unitas Stadium will air live on Lax Sports Network.
