ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to Hofstra, 102-75, on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Hempstead, N.Y.

The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield, who dropped 17 points, six assists and four rebounds on the evening. Freshman forward
Zac Ervin chipped in 17 points and three rebounds in the loss.

Hofstra was led by Desure Buie, who recorded a game-high 44 points and five rebounds in the contest.

HIGHLIGHTS
Elon came out of the gates firing early in the first half, going on a 13-2 run over the first three minutes of the contest.
Hunter McIntosh led the charge for the4 Phoenix during the run, knocking down three straight threes to put Elon on top 13-4.
Simon Wright added two points and an assist during the spurt, dropping off a beautiful pocket pass to
Zac Ervin who score the basket plus the foul.

Hofstra fought back into the game over the next six minutes, tying the game at 17 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Pride's hot shooting continued into halftime and allowed for a 47-33 lead at the break.
Trailing by 17 early in the second half,
Zac Ervin knocked down back-to-back triples to spark a 9-2 Phoenix run.
Hunter Woods chipped in a long ball of his own during the stretch that brought Elon within ten at 59-49.

Elon battled for the remainder of the contest but came up short, as Hofstra went on to win 102-75.
NOTES
- The Phoenix shot 43.5 percent from the floor, including a 34.2 percent clip from beyond the arc.
- Elon held a 10-7 advantage in steals and a 20-17 advantage in assists
- The Phoenix grabbed 10 offensive rebounds in the contest compared to just four for Hofstra.Hofst
