ELON, N.C. – The Elon University football team closed out its third week of full practice last Saturday, Nov. 7 at Rhodes Stadium. The team finished the week in full pads while also hosting a live period session.
Â
"We wrapped up a good week of practice with some live reps in the stadium on Saturday," said Phoenix head coach
Tony Trisciani. "We increased the intensity and physicality with some short-yardage scenarios earlier in the week."
Â
Saturday's practice included live tackling and competitive special teams drills along with a live "move the ball" period. The day ended with a two-minute situation on the field before the team concluded with workouts in the weight room.
Â
"Our guys have done a good job of focusing on the day-to-day routine and objectives," added Trisciani. "Fall ball is a process; install, practice, corrections and repeat. It's important that we get better every day. I've seen improvement and development at every position."
Â
Among the players who stood out last week for their performances were senior wide receiver
Kortez Weeks, redshirt freshman wide receiver
Chandler Brayboy and redshirt junior defensive tackle
Torrence Williams. Weeks was tabbed the team's Offensive Player of the Week while Williams (Defensive) and Brayboy (Special Teams) also received laurels from the coaching staff on their respective sides of the ball.
Â
As the semester winds down, Trisciani knows that it's important to take full advantage of the practices that are remaining for his squad to close out the fall.
Â
"This week I expect to see more consistency," said Trisciani. "We have a heightened sense of urgency and we need to take advantage of our three remaining practice opportunities of the fall."
