Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Elon Defeats Campbell, 66-56, to Remain Unbeaten

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball remained unbeaten this season after defeating Campbell, 66-56, on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

"I thought today, especially after the pause we had, we challenged the guys to really compete and bring energy – and if they did that we would live with the results," head coach Mike Schrage stated. "I thought we brought that energy from the beginning. We were a little rusty offensively, and some of that is to be expected, but this is a game that really showed our growth as a team."

THE RUNDOWN
- Elon got things rolling quickly in the first half, opening the game on a 7-2 run. Hunter McIntosh scored the first points of the contest before Ikenna Ndugba knocked down his first three pointer of the season to put the Phoenix on top 5-2. Shortly after, McIntosh drained a pair of free throws to give Elon a 7-2 advantage early.
- After a back-and-forth battle saw Campbell leading by one with just over 1:30 to play in the first half, Jerald Gillens-Butler finished strong at the rim to put Elon back in front. A Hunter Woods fast-break finish and a buzzer-beating three by McIntosh rounded out the 7-0 Phoenix run to end the half.
- With Elon leading 53-48 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game, Kris Wooten drilled a deep three to spark a 13-3 run that put the game out of reach. Culminating in five consecutive made free throws, the burst helped the Phoenix secure the 66-56 win.
