RICHMOND, Va. – After averaging 17.5 points and four assists during a 1-1 week for the Phoenix, Elon University men's basketball freshman guard
Hunter McIntosh has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, Feb 24.
To open the weekend, the freshman out of Snellville, Ga., poured in a career-high 27 points and five assists in Elon's 70-62 road victory over JMU. McIntosh shot 8-of-9 from the field and drilled a career-best six threes to lead the Phoenix to its third straight road win. Against Towson, McIntosh scored eight points and dished out four assists in 31 minutes of action.
For his play, McIntosh garnered the fourth CAA Weekly Honor of his career, joining Elijah Bryant (14-15) as just the second player in Elon history to take home the award at least four times in a single season.
The first time McIntosh won the honor (Dec. 16) came after scoring a team-high 15 points, adding three assists and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. His second selection (Feb. 3) came by way of a then career-high 24 points, five rebounds and three assists performance to lead the Phoenix to a 74-69 victory over Northeastern. McIntosh also won the honor last week (Feb. 17) after averaging 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 1-1 week for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 29, when it travels to Williamsburg, V.A. for a 4 p.m. matchup with William & Mary. That matchup will be the final game for the Phoenix before the CAA Tournament begins on March 7, in Washington, D.C.
