ELON, N.C. – Powered by a 5-0 run to start the second half, Elon University women's lacrosse took a 12-5 victory over Campbell at Rudd Field on Saturday, Feb. 8, in the season opener for both teams.

THE RUNDOWN
Leading 5-3 at the break after a back-and-forth first half, Elon put together five consecutive goals to open the half in the first 15-plus minutes to take the two-goal lead to a 10-3 lead with 14:41 to go in the game. Though Campbell broke the run with 7:29 to go, Elon pushed its lead to as many as eight down the stretch at 12-4 on the way to the win.

In the opening half, Elon jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from
Cassidy Creighton and
Sara Bouwman in the game's first 10 minutes. Never trailing on the day, Bouwman's second of the day pushed Elon's lead to 3-1 after Campbell's first of the day and back-to-back goals from
Meredith Curtin and
Cate Mackel made it 5-2 on the way to the halftime lead.

HIGHLIGHTS
Elon was paced by a pair of goals from Bouwman, Mackel, Creighton and
Mae McGlynn with Curtin,
Kaley Ehnow,
Blair Kessler and
Camryn Levin each tallying once. A host of Phoenix finished the day with a team-high three ground balls and
Quinn Daly led the way with three caused turnovers.
Gillian Curran picked up right where she left off in the draw circle in 2019, collecting a game-high 10 of Elon's 14 draw controls.

All five of Campbell's goals were scored by different goal scorers while Megan Matthews and Ally Heath posted two assists each. Three Camels picked up three ground balls on the day with a trio of athletes forcing three turnovers.

NOTES
-Elon is now 5-2 in season openers in program history and has won back-to-back openers, both coming against Campbell.
-Elon has now opened the season against Campbell in three of the last four years going back to 2017.
-Three of Elon's goal scorers were playing in their first collegiate games in Creighton, Ehnow and Levin.
-Between the pipes,
Allie Cerrone finished with nine saves. The game marked her first start in goal since the 2018 season.
-Curran's 10 draw controls match a program record for most in a game. The number matched
Stephanie Asher's 10 in a game in 2018 against Coastal Carolina.
