ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball came up just short against Northeastern, falling 66-58 on Sunday afternoon. Â
THE RUNDOWN
- After falling behind 19-4 to open the game,
Ikenna Ndugba scored on back-to-back possessions to ignite an 11-2 Elon run to get back into the game. Following Ndugba's five quick points,
Kris Wooten,
Hunter McIntosh and
Federico Poser each finished strong at the rim to cap the burst. The run brought the score to 21-15 with 11:55 remaining in the first half.
- Trailing 35-19 with just over two minutes before the break, McIntosh knocked down a mid-range jumper to spark a 8-0 Phoenix run to end the half. Buckets by Ndugba and
Hunter Woods, followed by another McIntosh score brought Elon back within 10.
- Down by 13 with just under seven minutes to play in the game, a
Chuck Hannah three followed by four quick points from
Hunter Woods brough Elon within six.
Kris Wooten capped the Phoenix's run with a three of his own to make the score 53-50 with 4:36 remaining in the contest.
- Both teams traded buckets over the final few minutes with Northeastern holding on to win, 66-58.

- Hunter McIntosh led the way for the Phoenix, posting 17 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Ikenna Ndugba each scored 10 points, while combining for 17 total rebounds in the loss.
