Phoenix Set for CAA Road Contest at Drexel

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's soccer team is set to face Drexel on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Vidas Field.

The Matchup
• Elon holds a 4-2 record all-time over Drexel since the two programs became league foes in 2014.
• The Dragons have won the last two matchups in the series including a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix in the last meeting in 2019.
• The Phoenix's last victory came in 2018 with a 1-0 result in Elon.
 
Last Time Out
• The Phoenix defeated Campbell, 1-0, in a midweek contest on Wednesday, Sept. 29. It was the 11th victory over its intrastate foe in the first regular-season meeting between the two teams since 2015.
• Sophomore Sam Durand scored the lone goal of the match in the 43rd minute, the first goal of his career. Fellow sophomore Jake Kelly had the assist on the goal, his first point of the season.
Peter Wentzel recorded his fourth shutout of the season while making three saves in between the posts for the Phoenix.
 
Elon Earns Team Academic Award
• The Phoenix earned a Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches Association as announced on Monday, Sept. 27.
• Elon had a team composite grade-point average of 3.50 and was one of four men's teams in the Colonial Athletic Association that were recognized.
 
About Elon
• Through its nine games, Elon (5-4, 2-1 CAA) has scored nine goals on the season. The Phoenix has also outshot opponents 113-94 and holds a 46-42 advantage in shots on goal over the opposition.
• Elon is in a four-way tie for second in the CAA standings with its six points along with Drexel, Hofstra and Northeastern.
Jack Edwards leads the Phoenix with his three goals and six total points. Each of his goals this season have been game winners with Edwards being tied for third in the country in that category.
• Statistically, Elon is one of the top defensive teams in the CAA, allowing only 1.00 goal per game, which is second in the league.
• Wentzel is the CAA-leader in goals-against-average at 0.56 while also tied for the league-lead in shutouts with four.
 
Scouting Drexel
• The Dragons enter the match on a two-game win streak after defeating College of Charleston on the road last Saturday, 2-1. Drexel is 4-4 overall on the year with a 2-1 ledger in the CAA.
• Last season, Drexel went 6-3-2 in the shortened spring season while going 2-1-1 in the CAA. The Dragons reached the CAA Tournament, but fell to James Madison in the semifinals via a penalty kick shootout, 8-7.
• Drexel has scored 14 goals this season while conceding 11. Senior forward Chris Donovan paces the Dragons with five goals and 12 total points.
• In goal, Cameron Sanders has seen the most time for the Dragons between the posts, posting a 1.17 GAA and a .741 save percentage.
